PHE Zika virus guidance for pregnant women

There is currently no vaccine or drug available to prevent Zika virus infection. The majority of Zika virus cases are acquired via a mosquito bite, although sexual transmission of Zika virus infection can occur. Zika virus infection in women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant can result in serious birth defects.

  • Advice for pregnant women and couples considering pregnancy returning from a country or area with risk for Zika virus transmission.
