NICE has updated Quality Standard 93 on Atrial fibrillation.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrythmia, and is estimated to be increasing in prevalence. Appropriate management of AF can prevent serious complications, most notably stroke, from occurring. Maintaining a good standard of AF care is therefore essential.
The standards set by QS93 are expected to contribute to improvements in the following outcomes:
- mortality rates in adults with atrial fibrillation
- stroke and transient ischaemic attack rates in adults with atrial fibrillation
- admission rates for adults with a primary diagnosis of atrial fibrillation
- quality of life of adults with atrial fibrillation.
