NHS England has published Next steps on the NHS five year forward view, reviewing the progress made since the launch of the Five year forward view in October 2014 and reviews the next practical steps for the NHS.
The document aims to set out the main national service improvement priorities for the next 2 years, within expected financial constraints. It acknowledges that most NHS care is provided by general practice and Chapter 3 describes how increasing the resources available to primary care is crucial to meeting the requirements of the Five year forward view and the public’s expectations.
Areas other than primary care covered by the document include:
- urgent and emergency care
- mental health
- integrating care locally
- funding and efficiency
- strengthening the workforce
- patient safety
- harnessing technology and innovation.
