The British Lymphology Society (BLS) has published a position paper for the management of people with lymphoedema in the presence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and a skin care fact sheet for people with lymphoedema.

The position paper outlines practical information for clinical decision making for healthcare professionals managing lymphoedema; key principles for practice; and when to safely apply compression in the presence of acute DVT.

Key areas include:

  • signs and symptoms of DVT and pulmonary embolism
  • risk factors for developing DVT
  • the use of compression in venous thromboembolism
  • general advice for patients following diagnosis of DVT
  • BLS DVT statement.

The fact sheet on skin care for people with lymphoedema outlines skin changes in lymphoedema; common lymphoedema-related skin problems; skin management for lymphoedema; and different types of emollients and their uses.
