New guidance for GPs on antibody testing for SARS-CoV-2 has been published by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)
The DHSC has published Antibody testing for SARS-CoV-2: information for general practitioners.
As more people access antibody tests through surveillance studies, private providers, or directly through NHS Test and Trace, there is an increasing chance that people will approach primary care services for advice. Certain countries require or allow antibody tests to permit entry.
The new guidance covers advice and information relevant to GPs on:
- antibody response against SARS-CoV-2
- antibody testing capability and uses
- immunity against SARS-CoV-2—current understanding
- result interpretation and SARS-CoV-2 antibody mechanics
- assay types
- evidence base
- probabilistic language.
