The Guidelines brand is celebrating 25 years of delivering clinical guideline summaries to primary care practitioners
In 1995, MGP—the company behind Guidelines—was established by husband-and-wife team Ivor and Rosie Eisenstadt, with a purpose to help inform and educate healthcare professionals by making clinical guidance easily accessible and digestible. The Guidelines handbook was then launched to GPs in 1997, designed to support the delivery of evidence-based healthcare to patients. Guidelines, the UK’s provider of concise, practice clinical guideline summaries, is celebrating 25 years of supporting best-practice patient care.
The brand has developed progressively over the past 25 years. In 2000, the eGuidelines website was launched, followed in 2012 by the Guidelines app, then in 2016 and 2019 by the Guidelines for Nurses and Guidelines for Pharmacy sub-brands, both of which are now fully integrated into the Guidelines website.
Guidelines has gone from strength to strength, and is now offering healthcare professionals more clinical summaries and professional resources than ever. It is used and trusted by over 38,000 GPs and practice-based clinical pharmacists, and provides over 350 clinical guideline summaries developed in conjunction with more than 70 different independent professional bodies. Last year alone, the Guidelines team produced 60 new summaries, 52 updated summaries, and 362 news articles, and over 10,000 new members joined our network.
The 2021 GP Media Survey found that 61% of GPs use the Guidelines handbook,1 and a survey conducted by the Guidelines team found that 97% of community pharmacists find the Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook useful.2 Your feedback clearly demonstrates the importance of clinical guideline summaries to support you in your patient decision making and clinical education.
In 2021, MGP joined the WebMD family, making this anniversary even more exciting for the Guidelines community, as Guidelines and guidelines.co.uk are now part of the Medscape Professional Network—working together to support evidence-based best practice. As part of the Medscape Professional Network, Guidelines will continue to provide concise, up-to-date summaries of clinical guidance, and will continue to make guidance-related content easier for practitioners to implement for many years to come.
Guidelines Editor, Claire Green MRPharmS, commented: ‘From humble beginnings to today’s multi-channel offering, we have always had the same goal in mind: to improve patients’ lives by supporting you to deliver best-practice healthcare. We look forward to continuing this mission over the next 25 years and beyond.
‘Indeed, the future looks bright for Guidelines, as we are now part of Medscape, a one-stop resource for medical news, clinical reference, and education. Watch this space for further announcements on how we are planning to support you even more comprehensively, and look out for our forthcoming readers’ survey if you want to have your say.’
