Sophie Hatton reveals the highlights of the April 2021 issue of the Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook, including new and updated COVID-19 guideline summaries

Your April 2021 edition of the Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook is currently on its way and should be with you in pharmacy by the end of the week, so that you can easily reference national guidelines at the point of consultation with patients and the public. But if you can’t wait until then, here’s a sneak peek at what’s inside the April issue.

COVID-19 guidance is a rapidly evolving landscape. To keep you up to date and informed on current guidance, I’m pleased to bring you a selection of new and updated COVID-19 guideline summaries, including a summary of new NICE guidance on managing COVID-19. This guideline brings together NICE’s existing recommendations on managing COVID-19, so that you can find and use the information more easily.

We’ve also introduced new summaries on HEART UK’s position statement on the management of hyperlipidaemia in people with COVID-19, NHS England and Improvement’s local vaccination services deployment guidance, and the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 clinical management living guidance.

In addition, you’ll find updated guideline summaries on PHE’s COVID vaccination information, and management of staff and patients exposed to COVID-19. Alternatively, visit the homepage to view the entire catalogue of summaries.

I’m also delighted to welcome Janice Perkins FRPharmS, Chair of the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group to the April issue of Guidelines for Pharmacy. Janice has contributed an editorial to shine a spotlight on the fie risk associated with some emollients. Janice highlights what you can do to better understand these risks and advise members of the public accordingly.

A version of this editorial is published in print in the April 2021/volume 7 issue of the Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook. Receive updates on the latest Guidelines for Pharmacy summaries and resources by opting in to our email newsletters via the My Newsletters page in your account.
