This report, written by Kate Halliday and Dr Steve Brinksman for Alcohol Research UK, intends to encourage the implementation of alcohol Identification and Brief Advice (IBA) in primary care with expert support for nurse mentors. It is hoped that nurses can take the lead in making good use of IBA, for which there is a wealth of evidence to show it is an effective (and cost-effective) method for reducing the risks associated with drinking alcohol.
