As the core component of pharmacological treatments for asthma and COPD, the choice of inhaler device as well as the right drug for each individual patient is crucial to the proper management of their condition. The clinical efficacy of treatment can be maximised by choosing the right method of delivery while poor choice of inhaler can have consequences for quality of life and disease control. Although plenty of guidance exists on pharmacological treatment, advice on appropriate device selection is limited.

This new Guidelines algorithm covers choice of appropriate inhaler device, and how to engage the patient when assessing inhaler technique.
