Tinnitus guidance for GPs

British Tinnitus Association

It is estimated that 10% of the UK population will be affected by tinnitus. Approximately half of patients with tinnitus will report having other related problems such as insomnia and emotional stress. Despite the negative impact on patients’ quality of life, many people perceive their GPs as dismissive or not having enough knowledge about their condition. Greater awareness of the signs of and treatments for tinnitus will enable GPs to support patients living with tinnitus.

This Guidelines summary provides practical advice on managing tinnitus and when to refer for specialist assessment.
